Product Details
- If you are a hobby breeder or a commercial sheep farmer you come across a situation where you have to hand raise the orphaned lambs. Orphan lambs may arise after the death of the ewe or due to abandonment or rejection, especially by first time or maiden ewes and those with multiple lambs. A weak twin or triplet may need to be removed from its mother and raised by hand to ensure its survival. A strong, healthy triplet lamb or one that has lost its mother may be grafted onto another ewe that has recently given birth, but this may not be practical in a large flock. Raising orphan lambs by hand is often the best option. Though survival will depend on many factors, having the right equipment and environment are essential for success.
- If you have to raise lambs by hand this bucket is very practical for feeding five lambs at a time. Newborn lambs require small and frequent meals, ideally six meals per day for the first 3 days. It adopts rubber bionic nipple suction method, which is more in line with the physiological requirements of new lamb. The nipples can also control the speed of milk flow. The Intermittent milk supply can effectively prevent and avoid bloat, scours (diarrhoea) or aspiration / foreign body pneumonia (inhaling liquid), indigestion.
- The bucket is gauged/ measure markings on inner walls. Which enables you to give required amount of milk to the lams/s at a time. Generally, lambs do not know when to stop drinking and drink too quickly, therefore consuming more than their stomachs can handle. This can cause bloat, scours (diarrhoea) or aspiration (inhaling liquid). These conditions are extremely serious and can kill a lamb very quickly, which is why correct feeding equipment is so important.
- Hygiene is of the utmost importance. After feeding, sterilize the bucket. You can do this by using boiling water or you can use a baby bottle sterilizer if you have access to one. If using the former method, wash thoroughly. Allow bucket to air upside-down to prevent bacteria building inside. Check there is no residual milk left on the bucket, teats, or other mixing utensils, also make sure the lamb is cleaned of any spilt milk. Bacteria breeds very quickly in milk and can cause digestive issues.
